“Current happenings:It’s been almost 2 weeks and I’ve been working on my self-study schedule while also getting started. I’ve been doing my best to draw every day for at minimum 5 hours to see what are my strengths and how do I struggle. I’ve also been working on a project to release a weekly comic “
It has now been little over 2 weeks now since I started pre-planning for my self-studies. I was excited and super pumped! But, after laying pen to paper my dream idea came out as jumbled thoughts and unstructured milestones. It got me frustrated, so the next day I revised it, and the next day, and the next, and..... (yea, you get the picture) At first, I scheduled a day plan with start-and-end times. … That didn’t go well. Unexpected things would pop up. For example:
1pm – 3pm Anatomy Study. I ended up having a bad case of diarrhea after eating some expired food… I didn’t know! for around 1 hour, the toilet was my friend…
Instead of expected 2 hours, I only did 1 hour. From that first trial and error, the next thing I did was write down a “To Do List” and marked according to priority. My priority was – which ones were due the soonest. I took on some commission/freelance work, so I really had to do my best to finish those for the appointed dates.
In the process, I noticed that my studies were affected by the commission work. It’s the same situation with going to school and having a part-time job. I had to figure out how to manage my time effectively. So, I gave myself a daily goal of spending at minimum 5 hours of one or more drawing fundamental study and practice. In a nut shell, my next step is figure out how to effectively schedule my fundamental studies and practice.
Break down
1. Start-to-end schedule > Failed
2. To do list schedule > Worked
3. Reinforce prioritization mindset > Continue
4. Figure out effective fundamental practice > Next Step
Also, for others who are interested in self-study. This is just a process through my personal trials and errors. What works for me might not work for you, but I do hope it helps give some sort of insight. And for those who have self-studied before. Let me know what were your challenges, and how did you over come them. I would love to hear about your experiences.
I mention a lot on the other social media plat forms that I’m on - my passion and career goal is to make comics/ graphic novels for-the-rest-of-my-life… Oh! The sweet ecstasy! (hope you can understand my humor, or at least tolerate it. lol)
I’m proposing to myself a 5 year plan. In the span of 5 years I will challenge myself to create multiple short episodic comics and comic strips from start to finish of every story arch before I create a full serialized graphic novel. My dream is to make longer stories that break up into volumes, and I have a bunch I really want to create! But, because my low confidence in my story telling ability I want to give myself 5 years to improve.
The self-study idea originated from my passion with comics and story telling. I want to be able to communicate as effectively and entertaining as possible. To do so, I need to do. Lol.
Thank you for those who read all the way through this journal. Thank you to all my watchers and friends! I look forward to your continued support.
